The festival of Shardiya Navratri is going to start from 15th October. During this nine-day festival of Mother Goddess, devotees worship her with rituals. Where to wear saree during Navratri?
Men of the Baraut community in Ahmedabad, Gujarat wear sarees and play Garba during Navratri. Men participate in this ceremony in large numbers. Men wearing sarees come to play Garba in Amba Mata temple located in Vadodara, Gujarat.
While the men are playing Garba, at the same time some women sit and sing songs. People come to temples from far and wide to see this scene. Sheri garba tradition
This tradition going on in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is called Sheri Garba. People of the Baraut community perform Garba wearing saree on the night of Ashtami Tithi of Navratri (Navratri 2023). Here men are following a 200 year old tradition.
People living here believe that about 200 years ago a woman named Saduba had cursed the men of the Baraut community, hence this tradition is followed during Navratri to please the Mother Goddess and the men also apologized for it. She goes.
Along with this, it is also believed that in ancient times people did not consider it safe for women to play Garba late at night during pregnancy. Then men started playing Garba by disguising themselves as women.
