Shaheed Diwas 2023: March 23 is celebrated as Martyr's Day in India because on this day in 1931, the British hanged young Indian revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar. At the age of just 23, this young man had sacrificed himself for the country while laughing. The whole country was in mourning due to his hanging and the youth was angry. The role of this day is considered very special in the history of the Indian independence movement. In honor of the martyrs, not only March 23 but a total of seven Martyrs' Days are celebrated in India every year. These seven days are 30 January, 23 March, 19 May, 21 October, 17 November, 19 November, and 24 November.
Because of this Bhagat Singh was sentenced to death
The struggle went on for many years to liberate India from the British. In which many heroes sacrificed their lives while laughing. Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were also included. Raising their voice against British rule, these three threw bombs into the Central Assembly in protest against the Public Safety and Trade Distribute Bill. After this, he was arrested and hanged on March 23, 1931.
Was hanged a day earlier
The British had fixed the time for the hanging of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev at 6 am on March 24, 1931. A huge crowd of people had started gathering outside the Lahore Central Jail two days earlier. Due to this, there was a need to implement section 144 in Lahore, but this section also did not affect the people. Due to this, the British got very nervous and these days were hanged 12 hours in advance. The sad thing is that these three did not even get a chance to meet their families for the last time.
