The holy month of Sawan has started today i.e. from the 4th of July.
In the month of Sawan, devotees offer many things to Lord Shiva so that Lord Shiva becomes pleased and bestows his blessings on them.
In this episode, astrologer expert Dr Radhakant Vats told us that an umbrella should be offered to Lord Shiva in the month of Sawan.

Relation of lord shiva with the umbrella
- There is an urn of water on top of the Shivling in the temple, from which water keeps on dripping continuously.
- In some pagodas, this water falls directly on the Shivling and in some on the umbrella placed on the Shivling.
- There is always a canopy in the form of a snake on the Shivling which is considered to be the symbol of Vasuki Nag.
- Vasuki Nag is as dear to Mahadev as Nandi. That's why he resides in every pagoda in the form of an umbrella.
- Mahadev had given this boon to Vasuki that he would be established in the form of an umbrella on every Shivling.
- Since then, along with Shivling, Nandi and Vasuki snakes in the form of umbrellas are sitting in every temple.
Benefits of offering umbrella to Lord Shiva
- It is believed that if an umbrella in the form of a snake is offered on the Shivling, then Lord Shiva gets immense blessings.
- Lord Shiva takes away all the sorrows and pains of that devotee and fills his life with happiness.
- Offering an umbrella, it is believed that Lord Shiva's hand protects that family by becoming an umbrella.
- Offering an umbrella to Lord Shiva in Sawan does not cause Pitra Dosh and one gets freedom from snake bite.
- It is believed that snakes never trouble the person who offers an umbrella on Shivling.
- The umbrella can be offered of any metal. You can offer copper, silver or gold umbrella.
