The auspicious Sarva Pitru Amavasya will be celebrated on 14th October in conjunction with Shani Amavasya and Ashwin Amavasya. Sarva Pitru Amavasya is celebrated on Ashwin Krishna Amavasya during Pitru Paksha and has immense significance. On this unique day, important rituals like Tarpan, Shraddha, and Pind Daan are performed in honor of both known and unknown ancestors.

Pitru Paksha Amavasya is also known as Sarva Pitru Amavasya or Mahalaya Amavasya. On Mahalaya Amavasya, people offer tarpan to remember the departed souls of their families. On Mahalaya Shraddha, Pitru Tarpan is performed early in the morning for the salvation of one's ancestors.

Rituals to be followed on Sarva Pitru Amavasya:

  • Remember your ancestors and offer them water. You can use rice, kasha grass, white flowers, and black sesame seeds. Use the tip of Kusha grass to offer water to your ancestors.
  • On the day of Pitru Amavasya, do charity and charity to please your ancestors. Consider donating after your morning prayers and rituals.
  • You can also perform a special ritual on Sarva Pitru Amavasya in honor of the Peepal tree, which is believed to be the abode of the Trinity.

  • On Sarva Pitru Amavasya, it is traditional to organize a feast for Brahmins after the Shraddha ceremony. Food cooked to satisfy and thank their ancestors usually includes foods like kheer, puri, and pumpkin curry.
  • As part of the Panchabali Karma ritual, a portion of the food is offered to crows, cows, dogs, ants, and other species of animals, which is consumed by the ancestors on Amavasya.
