According to reports, a 40-year-old woman living in California had to suffer serious consequences after eating fish. The woman fell ill after eating fish. The woman lost both her arms and legs. The woman had bought a fish named Tilapia, that fish was contaminated with bacteria named Vibrio vulnificus. The bacteria harmed the woman in such a way that gradually her fingers, toes and lips started turning black. Many important organs of the body also started deteriorating. To keep the woman alive, her hands and legs had to be amputated.

Let us tell you that Vibrio vulnificus is a deadly bacterium which is found in raw food and water. Experts say that when fish or any seafood is not cooked properly, there can be a risk of infection. Include fish in your diet with these precautions

  • Whenever you buy fish, buy only fresh fish, eating stale fish can put you at risk of infection.

  • Whenever you buy fish, do not store it for more than 2 days.
  • Always pay attention to the type of fish, eating contaminated or prohibited fish can lead to accumulation of mercury in the body.

  • Consumption of fish should be avoided during the rainy season. During rains, dirty water often gets mixed into rivers and seas, which can also contaminate fish.
  • Whenever you cook fish, cook it at high temperature only, bacteria do not die at low temperatures.
  • Always wash and cook fish with clean and cold water.
