The festival of Rishi Panchami i.e. the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month will be celebrated on Wednesday, 20th September this year. It is believed that whoever remembers and worships the sages on this day becomes free from all kinds of sins. This day is considered special for the worship of our mythological sages Vashishtha, Kashyap, Vishwamitra, Atri, Jamadagni, Gautam, and Bhardwaj. If women take a bath in Ganga on Rishi Panchami, its results increase manifold. According to Brahma Purana, women of all four castes should observe this fast on this day. This fast is observed as an atonement for the sins committed by touching the body while it is unclean and other sins. If women, knowingly or unknowingly, engage in worship, household work, touching their husbands, etc. during menstruation, their sins are destroyed by this fast.

Ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu have been mentioned in the scriptures. The first incarnation among these was that of Matsya. The story is that at the time of Matsya's incarnation, there was a flood on this earth. At that time, the Saptarishis were riding in a huge boat along with King Manu and Lord Vishnu in the Matsya incarnation had saved the lives of all of them.
