Right to Repair: It often happens that when gadgets made by a company are updated after some time, they stop making parts for the old product. Due to this, customers have to pay for the new product along with the service charge. On this, the Central Government is preparing to bring the Right to Repair Policy. The right-to-repair policy can help customers to repair and use their damaged expensive items.
What is the right-to-repair policy?
Right to Repair policy gives the consumer the right to get his electronic goods repaired. These items can be mobile phones, laptops, TVs, fridges vehicles etc. The main objective of this policy is to reduce the control of the companies and to reduce the dependency of the consumers for repairs.
The meaning of the Right to Repair policy is that if someone's mobile phone, laptop, TV, fridge vehicle etc. gets damaged and the customer goes to the service centre of that company and demands repair, then the service centre will reimburse the customer. The manufacturer cannot refuse by saying that the parts used in this gadget are no longer manufactured or due to product upgrades, will not be able to provide parts for this model. Also, the company cannot force the customer to buy new products, because, under the Right to Repair policy, the company cannot refuse to repair the old product.
Right to Repair will affect customers' pockets:
Many times it happens that a customer goes to the service centre to get his old or antique product repaired, the product has become old and for this, he has to get new parts replaced. Due to this, customers also have to pay for new parts instead of service charges. Which has a direct impact on the customer's pocket, but under the Right to Repair policy, customers will not be charged for the replacement of new parts. The old part will be repaired and given back to the service centre.
Here's how the Right to Repair policy helps:
- The companies' service centres often perform repairs at a lower cost than local repairmen.
- You may have to wait for a long time in the company's service centres within the warranty period, but under Right to Repair, you will be able to get the repair done in less time.
- Your dependence on the company's limited options may be reduced, but your product will still have to be repaired.
- Repairing and using old equipment instead of throwing it away will reduce waste.
- Opening up repair options will provide an opportunity to understand and improve the technology.
