Pollution has increased to dangerous levels in the national capital Delhi. The level of pollution here remains continuously in the 'bad category'. Health experts are considering it challenging for health in many ways. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi remains consistently above 300. Experts say, there is a possibility of AQI getting worse after Diwali.
The Ministry of Health has asked all people to avoid exposure to bad air and use public transport. It is important to keep trying to control air pollution. Given the increase in air pollution levels in many cities, the government has urged all the states to increase their preparations and strengthen health services to deal with this threat.
During the festive season and the beginning of winter, the risk of many types of health problems increases significantly due to air pollution. Staying away from pollution is very important to keep everyone healthy.
Health Ministry appeals
The Union Health Ministry has also urged all people to use public transport and avoid overcrowded areas. In a letter to the states and union territories, Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Atul Goyal has appealed to not burn stubble and garbage, reduce the use of firecrackers during festivals, promote public transport, and reduce the use of diesel-based generators. All these are considered factors promoting pollution, by reducing the use of which the level of pollution can be reduced to some extent.
What do experts say?
Dr Atul said, that given the risks of increasing air pollution, all people are advised to check the level of pollution when going out of the house. Air pollution can cause serious health problems. Due to this, there is a risk of many problems related to respiratory, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular systems. Not only this, long-term exposure to air pollution can also cause long-term diseases and death. Its adverse effects have been seen more especially in vulnerable age groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Such people need to take special precautions.
