On July 29, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first installment of the Pradhan Mantri Shree Yojana while inaugurating the All India Education Summit at Pragati Maidan, Delhi. During this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also released 100 books in 12 Indian languages. Under the first installment of Pradhan Mantri Shree Yojana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred Rs 630 crore to 6207 schools of States/Union Territories/Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Pradhan Mantri Shree Yojana is a wonderful scheme of the Government of India. Under the National Education Policy 2020, about 14,500 schools across the country will be upgraded under the PM Shree (Prime Minister's Schools for Rising India) scheme. More than 18 lakh students in the country will get the direct benefit of this scheme from the Government of India.
The schools which will be upgraded under the PM Shree scheme will be all government schools. These schools will be selected in association with the states.
Under the PM Shree scheme, the government will spend Rs 27,360 crore to upgrade schools from 2022-23 to 2026.
Under the scheme, the government will upgrade the schools with the latest technology, smart classrooms, sports, and modern infrastructure. In such a situation, the Pradhan Mantri Shri Yojana of the Government of India is going to play a big role in giving a new look to the schools.
To get the benefit of the scheme, the schools themselves will have to apply on the online portal. The portal will be opened four times a year for the first two years of the scheme. After application, the schools will be verified by the State/UT/KVS/JNV. After this, the list of selected schools will be sent to the ministry.
