Pitru Paksha Upay 2023: Pitru Paksha occurs from the full moon date of Bhadrapada month to the new moon date of Ashwin month. During this time, performing Shraddha, Tarpan, and Pind Daan for the ancestors was considered auspicious. Pitru Paksha lasts for 15 days during which our ancestors come to meet us on the earth. It is described in Garun Purana that in some special circumstances, women can also perform Pind Daan. Know what those special circumstances are.
When can women perform Pind Daan?
It is described in Garuda Purana that if a person does not have a son, then the women of the family can also perform Shraddha or Pind Daan for their father. According to Garuda Purana, despite not having a son, if the daughter supports her father with a true heart, then she gets the blessings of her ancestors. According to the second situation, if the men of the house are not present during Pind Daan for some reason, then in this situation also women can perform Shraddha or Pind Daan.
Mother Sita had performed Pind Daan
There is also evidence in the scriptures that when no man was present, Mother Sita had performed Pind Daan of her father-in-law King Dasharatha near Sita Kund situated on the banks of Falgu. Mother Sita had made the Phalgu river, Ketaki flower, cow, and banyan tree the witnesses of this Pind Daan.
Method of Pind Daan (Pind Daan vidhi)
Pind Daan means donating food to one's ancestors. During Pind Daan, round-shaped balls are made by kneading barley or rice flour for the deceased person, hence it is called Pind Daan. During Pitru Paksha, there is a tradition of taking out five portions of food for one's ancestors.
It is believed that during Pitru Paksha, our ancestors come in the form of a cow, dog, well, ant, or gods and take the food donated by us. This indicates that our ancestors are happy with us.
