Have blemish-free skin that is soft and clear, is that your wish too? Large pores are seen on the face of most of us women. We have these pores all over our body and they play an important role. Sweat and oil come out of these pores, giving the skin a chance to breathe.

These pores can be easily detected by looking closely at anyone's face. However, the pores on the face of some people are visible from a distance. This can happen due to reasons like sun damage, hair thickness, ageing and genetics.

Renowned dermatologist DrJayashree Sharad writes in her social media account, giving information related to open pores, "Pores are the openings of the oil glands present in our skin. There are about 20000 pores on our face and they are always open. The oil that comes out of our glands comes out of them."

She further writes about these that these pores cannot be opened or closed. Their size increases due to the release of excess oil. Apart from this, it can increase due to hormonal imbalance or any medication. She explains in detail why these pores grow and their treatment.

Can pores be closed?

Many people have this question. Many products claim to unclog pores, but they do not. You can never close these pores. Yes, they can be shrunk a bit through treatment. Regular cleansing and exfoliation remove dirt and dead skin cells from the face, thereby unclogging the pores and improving their condition.

Reasons for the appearance of large pores

Stress

When you're stressed, cortisol can sometimes lead to excess oil production. For this reason, dirt and bacteria easily start accumulating in the pores. Long-term stress can damage the skin.

Ageing

As you age, your skin starts to lose elasticity. This causes the skin to stretch and become loose, due to which the pores appear larger. With ageing, small skin cells start gathering around the pores, due to which the pores appear larger.

Excess Oil Secretion

Excess production of sebum can make the skin oily. This is the reason why the pores of women with oily skin appear bigger. This is the reason that their skin also starts to look sticky. Excess sebum can combine with dead skin cells to form a plug inside the pore, which can lead to blackheads and pimples.

Hormone imbalance

Without high estrogen, androgens increase sebum production, which not only makes pores appear larger but also causes clogged pores. Due to this, the problem of acne arises.

DrJayshree Sharad further states that these pores also grow due to the breakdown of collagen fibres. Apart from this, the problem of open pores can also arise due to pollution, unhealthy lifestyle, sun exposure, smoking, sugar intake and genetics etc.

What is the treatment of open pores?

Dr Sharad has also shared the treatment for the problem of open pores. According to her, HA, BHA and retinol can help stimulate collagen and reduce oiliness. To reduce the pore size, one may undergo Micro needling Radio Frequency or PRP, Chemical Peels or Fractional Laser. Apart from this, she also tells these treatments.

  • Retinoids

If you also have the problem of open pores, then you should consult your dermatologist first. He will be able to understand the reasons and tell you the right treatment. Apart from this, do not believe any such claims, which talk about reducing pores. Make sure to take expert advice first.
