Dr. ViplavKamble says that the skin of the lips is very sensitive. In such a situation, while it gets harmed by cold wind and sunlight, the internal conditions of the body also affect it. For example, lips often crack due to dehydration, apart from this, lack of nutrients becomes a major reason for cracked lips. Let us now know about those nutrients which cause cracked lips.

Vitamin B

Our lips are often the first victims of vitamin B deficiency. Let us tell you that if cracks are visible in the corners of your mouth when you smile, it could be due to a deficiency of Vitamin B. It is worth noting that Vitamin B is a group of 8 water-soluble vitamins, which are essential for various processes in the body. If there is a deficiency of some of these B vitamins in the body, you may see dry lips and similar symptoms. Especially deficiency of Vitamin B-12 causes problems of cracked lips and blisters.

Let us tell you that vegetarians are often deficient in B-12 because vitamin B-12 is mainly found in non-vegetarian food. To some extent, it can also be found in dairy products, nuts and green leafy vegetables, but our body is not able to absorb it easily. Therefore, if you are a vegetarian then you can fulfill this requirement through supplements.

Vitamin C

Due to a deficiency of Vitamin C, problems related to hair and skin occur. Vitamin C is also an essential nutrient for the lips, hence due to its deficiency the lips start cracking. Talking about the supply of Vitamin C can be supplied by consuming citrus fruits like oranges, tangerine, lemon, grapes, tomato, potatoes, broccoli, strawberries and capsicum.

Iron

The problem of cracked lips also arises due to iron deficiency. In such a situation, cracked lips sometimes appear as a sign of anaemia. Generally, women have more iron deficiency and due to this, they have to face the problem of chapped lips. It is noteworthy that like Vitamin B12, iron deficiency is more common in vegetarian people.

Iron is found in vegetables like spinach and broccoli, but the problem is that the phytates present in them prevent the absorption of iron. At the same time, polyphenols present in vegetables, fruits, beans, tea, coffee and wine also prevent the absorption of iron. Therefore, iron supplements prove to be a better option for vegetarian people.

Zinc

Zinc is one of the most important supplement minerals that help keep lips healthy and attractive. Zinc also plays an extremely important role in a healthy immune system. Along with other parts of the body, it is necessary to supply zinc to keep the lips also healthy. Let us tell you that along with meat and fish, zinc is found in good quantity in legumes and whole grains.
