After changing the SIM, now you will have to wait for seven days to port the mobile number. This new rule will come into effect from July 1, 2024. Telecom regulator TRAI has taken this step to prevent fraud through mobile phone numbers. Earlier, one had to wait for 10 days to port the mobile number.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said on Friday, the Telecom Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations issued by the regulator on March 14, 2024, will come into force from July 1. The regulator said, through these rules an additional criterion has been introduced to reject the request for allocation of Unique Porting Code (UPC). If a request for UPC is made before the expiry of seven days from the date of the SIM change, it will not be allocated.
