In our country, every day has its own special thing and importance. While on some days we celebrate someone's birth anniversary, on other days we celebrate it with great joy. In this context, the day of 24th April is also very special. National Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated on this day. This day has its importance and its history. So without any delay let us try to know about this day…
You may not know but the Panchayati Raj system is one of the oldest governing organizations in the country. At the same time, it controls about 6 lakh communities in India.
What is the history of this day?
If we talk about the history of this day, then the name of the person who is considered to be the father of the Panchayati Raj system is Lord Ripon. He gave the local institutions their democratic structure in the year 1882.
Balwant Rai Mehta Committee gave some suggestions, after which the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru first implemented the Panchayati Raj system in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan on 2 October 1959. Then after a few days, it was started in Andhra Pradesh also.
What is the importance of this day?
If there is any problem in any village in the country or the condition of that village is bad, then only the Gram Panchayat takes appropriate steps to solve this problem in that village and make it strong and developed. In the year 1957, to improve the central electricity system, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Balwantrai Mehta.
This committee conducted studies and according to these, the committee suggested a decentralized Panchayati Raj hierarchy. In this, I was told by the committee that there should be Gram Panchayats at the village level, Panchayat Samiti at the block level, and Zilla Parishad at the district level.
