A migraine is a headache problem that can cause many complications. Migraine is also known as a psychosomatic disorder which means that it can be a physical symptom caused by a mental health problem. Unlike normal headaches, migraines can be characterized by severe pain on one side of the head, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.
The problem of migraine is quite common, but the researchers found that if it is not treated properly in time, then this common problem of headache can also increase serious diseases.
Researchers have made a big claim in a study done to understand what kind of health risks can be caused by migraine. Scientists in Harvard Health report that migraine patients may be at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular health problems. If you are also a victim of migraine, then there is a need to be alert about its risks.
Risk of heart disease due to migraine
In the Harvard report, researchers said that some people who have acute or frequent migraine attacks may also have a higher risk of stroke or heart attack in such people. Experts say migraine problem is quite common in the young population and it is being seen as an increased risk of stroke.
A related study was published in the Jama Journal in the year 2020, in which experts included 28 thousands of participants, all of whom were women. None of them had heart problems at the start of the study.
What did the study find?
This study, which lasted till the year 2018, found that participants who had more migraine problems also had a higher risk of heart disease. Experts say it is not well understood how migraines may increase the risk of heart disease, but there are some theories to consider.
It is thought that migraines may be caused by an abnormality in the pattern of electrical activity in the brain. Migraines can also damage certain types of blood vessels, which increases the risk of heart problems, says Dr. Christopher Anderson, chief of stroke and cerebrovascular diseases at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard.
Heart attack risk
Another study suggests that people who get migraines may also be more likely to have a heart attack or a heart rhythm disorder. The risk of heart attack can be twice as high in such people as compared to those without migraines. The risk of migraine can be of different types in all people, it doesn't need to cause serious disease in all people.
Pay serious attention to the problem of migraine
Health experts say the problem of migraine has been commonly associated with mental health disorders. That is, if you have had a problem with depression or stress, then due to this the risk of developing migraine may be higher. Migraine problems are often psychosomatic, so a mental health specialist should also be consulted if normal treatment does not respond.
