The Norwegian Data Protection Authority said on Monday that Meta will have to pay a fine of $98,500, or about Rs 81.55 lakh, every day from August 14. This fine will be imposed on the social media firm in the security breach case. The authority had earlier also said on July 17 that unless the company makes an action plan to prevent user data privacy violations, it will have to pay this fine.

Meta will be fined lakhs every day!
Let us tell you that Datatilsinet had said that Meta Norway cannot access user data, such as users' physical location, nor can it be used for advertising targeting. The Data Protection Authority said that Meta will be fined every day until it takes some legal action regarding this.

Tobias Judin, head of Datatilsinet's international section, told Reuters that from next Monday, a daily fine of 1 million crowns (ie about Rs 81.55 lakh) on Meta would begin to apply. This fine will last till 3 November.

Datatilsinet can make it permanent by sending its decision to the European Data Protection Board. The European Data Protection Board has the power to do so if it agrees with the decision of the Norwegian regulation.

Meta said last week that it intended to ask users in the European Union for their consent to serve targeted ads to users on Facebook and Instagram.
