Becoming a mother is not easy... because with becoming a mother, you have the responsibility of another small life. In such a situation, due to the responsibilities of the child, the new mother is not able to take care of her health. Therefore, understanding the need for awareness in this direction, 23 January is celebrated every year as 'Maternal Health Awareness Day'.

Let us tell you that this time Maternal Health Awareness Day (Maternal Health Awareness Day 2024) is being celebrated with the theme 'Reach in Crisis'. Its objective is to provide proper treatment and health services for post-natal health problems in women. This article of ours is also a small effort in this direction, in which we are talking about the mental problems occurring after delivery.

In fact, after delivery, problems like thyroid, risk of heart disease, and losing control over urine become common among women, while mental problems like stress and depression also arise. There is a lot of awareness among people about physical problems, but people do not seem to be that aware of mental problems. Therefore, in this article, we are going to tell you about the mental problems that occur in women after delivery, which is known as 'baby blues' in medical terms.

What is Baby blues?

During pregnancy, a woman undergoes many physical changes. After this, with the delivery of the child, his world changes completely. In such a situation, while going through many stages of physical and personal change, the mental health of a woman gets affected to a great extent. Due to this, mental changes are seen in women after delivery and often this change is quite negative. For example, a woman feels sadness or stress in the initial days of childbirth. This mental state of stress and sadness after delivery is called 'baby blues'.

Symptoms Baby blues

Talking about the symptoms of baby blues, its symptoms start appearing in the first week after the birth of the child. For example, if within a few days of the birth of a child, a woman starts feeling afraid of the unknown, her mood changes rapidly or she feels more sensitive towards something, then it can be a symptom of baby blues. The woman suffering from this feels like crying and sometimes even starts having thoughts of suicide. However, signs of baby blues are visible only a few days after delivery. Usually, such symptoms gradually subside within two weeks of childbirth. Therefore, if all these problems are visible several months after delivery, then it could be postpartum depression, which is a more dangerous mental condition than baby blues.

Why do baby blues happen?

After delivery, many hormonal changes occur in the body of women, especially these days when there is a rapid decline in hormones like estrogen and progesterone. Due to such hormonal changes, women feel irritability, sadness and sudden mood changes. At the same time, the physical problems that a woman faces during and after delivery also lead to stress and mental depression. Apart from this, due to the additional responsibility of the child, the new mother is neither able to sleep properly nor take complete rest. In such a situation, insomnia and physical fatigue also cause mental problems.

How to prevent baby blues ?

To prevent baby blues, a woman will have to take care of her physical and mental health. For example, when your child is sleeping, you should also try to complete your sleep during that time. Along with this, you should take time and practice meditation, which will give you mental peace and relieve stress. At the same time, to get out of the problem of baby blues, a woman also needs the support of her family. Therefore, family members should take full care of the physical health and mental health of the new mother. Especially in this, the role of the woman's husband is very important, if he fulfils his responsibilities as the father of the child properly, then the responsibility of the woman as a mother is divided to a great extent. This directly provides mental peace to the woman, which helps in preventing baby blues.
