To strengthen the position of women in society, the law gives some rights to women. In most cases, married women are more dependent on others than unmarried women. Decisions are taken for them by family members. Due to lack of self-reliance, women are less aware of their rights and also lack confidence to demand their rights. In such a situation, women must know about some of their rights related to marriage so that they can live their life according to their wishes and do not depend on the decisions of others after marriage. These are some rights related to marriage for women.
Stridhan Adhikar
Every woman has the right to all kinds of gifts, jewelry, clothes, money or property received by her at the time of her marriage, during the baby shower or any ritual. The goods received by a woman before and after marriage without any force are called Stridhan, over which only she has the right.
Ancestral Property Rights
A married daughter has a right on her parents' property. Even after marriage, she can become the heir of her parents' property. Whether she is married or unmarried, she has equal rights on her parents' property like other children.
Dowry Prohibition Rights
A woman has the right to file a case if dowry is demanded. Both the person who takes and gives dowry are criminals. In such a case, the woman can file a case against her parents or the boy's parents and they can also be arrested.
Abortion Rights
A woman has the right that if she does not want to become a mother after marriage, she can get an abortion done on her own. A woman does not need the consent of her husband or family for abortion.
Marriage Rights
No one, including her parents, can force a woman to marry or have any relationship. A woman has the legal right to marry the person of her choice.
Rights on husband
The law gives a married woman the right to oppose her husband's mental and physical relationship with another woman. The husband of a married woman cannot have a relationship with another woman.
