The Government of India has banned the import of laptops, tablets, personal computers, and servers from outside, that is, now there will be no import of gadgets like laptops and tablets in India from countries like China and Taiwan, although they will be imported with certain conditions. All these imports have been banned with immediate effect, said the notification of the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
On behalf of the ministry, it has been said that import will be allowed with a condition that the imported goods will be used only for the stated purposes and will not be sold. Further, the condition also includes that the products will be destroyed or re-exported after use.
After the arrival of this news, many such posts are being shared on social media, in which it is being claimed that the Modi government has banned the import of laptops to benefit Jio. This reminds you that Jio has recently introduced its laptop JioBook, which is going to be sold from Amazon India from 5th August.
Why the ban on the import of laptops?
The ban on the import of laptops, tablets, and computers has been imposed for two reasons. The first reason is to promote Made in India. After the ban, companies ranging from Lenovo to HP, Asus, Acer, Samsung, and Apple will be forced to manufacture their laptops and computers in India. This will benefit Made India and generate employment in the country.
Another reason is data security. There is a risk of data leaks with laptops and tablets imported from outside. The government is apprehensive that the data of imported laptops may be stored on servers in other countries or they may be monitored.
Where did Jio come in the middle?
Jio launched a laptop last year and then this year also launched a laptop named JioBook. Now people are looking at this ban from the point of view that the government has banned the import of laptops only to benefit Jio, but you will be surprised to know that Jio's laptop JioBook is also imported from China.
JioBook is not manufactured in India. For your information, let us tell you that the Jio phone which you use in the name of Made in India is also imported from China and made by a Chinese company.
GeoBook has been developed by Hunan Greatwall Computer Systems Co., Ltd. of China. Its information has been given on Amazon India along with Geobook. So overall it is that Jio will not benefit from this ban, but it will only be a loss because so soon Jio cannot prepare a plant for manufacturing laptops in India. By the way, Made in India is written on the box of Jiobook's laptop.
