How to go
A one-and-a-half-hour Indian Airlines flight from Kerala's Kochi city takes you to Agathi Island. From here one can go by helicopter to Kavaratti Island. One can also go by boat from Agati to Kavaratti from October to May except in the monsoon months. Ships also ply from Kochi to various islands, which take 14 to 18 hours. This service remains closed during monsoon. It is necessary to take a permit to go to Lakshadweep. Indian citizens can visit any island with a permit.
When to go
Can be visited anytime between October to April. From November to February the summer is low but booking in advance is essential as a limited number of places are available to stay and go.
