Today i.e. on 26th August 2024, the festival of Janmashtami is being celebrated. Many people fast on the occasion of Janmashtami. They eat fruits all day and eat food after the birth of Lord Krishna at noon at night.
Many people do not eat anything all day during fasting, while some people eat a plate full of fruits. Both are harmful to health. In such a situation, by the time the fast is over, your body starts feeling weak and lack of energy.
Some things should be paid special attention to during fasting so that you remain energetic till the time of Krishna's birth at midnight and there is no harm to your health. Here some rules and important health-related information are being given for Janmashtami fasting.
Adequate fluids
Drink an adequate amount of water to keep the body hydrated during the fast of Janmashtami. You can also consume other liquids like lemonade, sherbet, and coconut water. If you are consuming fruit juice, then consume it without filtering i.e. fruit juice with fiber. This will also give you fiber which is very important for digesting food. The body gets essential vitamins and minerals from liquids.
Food advice
If you consume milk during fasting, then instead of drinking high-fat milk, drink double-toned milk. It has less fat and more amount of nutrients. Similarly, you can take low-fat curd, lassi, and buttermilk. You can eat peanuts roasted in very little ghee, buckwheat flour puris. Keep in mind that Falahari potatoes, Sabudana Khichdi, or Tikki should also be made in less ghee. You can consume gourd vegetables and halwa while avoiding the consumption of too much potatoes. The most important thing is to eat only homemade pure food during the fast.
Consumption of fruits and vegetables
You can eat fruit salad or fruit chaat during the fast. Eat seasonal fruits like bananas, apples, papaya, cucumber, etc. in adequate quantity. Avoid eating non-seasonal fruits like watermelon, muskmelon and orange. Among vegetables, cucumber, tomato, beetroot, green coriander sweet potato, etc. can be eaten by adding rock salt and black pepper powder.
Eat little by little
During fasting, some people eat fruits the whole day, while many people do not eat anything the whole day. Eating a plate full of fruits, milk, and other food items can harm health and also affect weight. Instead of eating a lot at once, it is better to eat little by little three to four times a day.
