Many people get a new life through organ donation, but there are many whose efforts fail at the last moment due to lack of money. Patients who have been waiting for organ transplants for many years, and when an organ donor is found, face financial constraints, but now perhaps such a problem will not arise because new efforts are being made in this regard.

12 year old child undergoes kidney transplant
For the first time, the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee of Mumbai convinced Jaslok Hospital of Peddar Road to immediately undergo a kidney transplant for a 12-year-old child, after which the money was raised by raising funds in various ways. Make arrangements. ZTCC is the organization that distributes cadaver organs.

The problem did not arise due to lack of money.
The young organ recipient is the son of a mechanic who does not have money for a transplant. Had the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee not intervened in the matter, he would have been put on the waiting list. Now ZTCC is trying to encourage more hospitals to adopt this approach and ensure that transplants are not delayed due to financial constraints.

How much does a transplant cost?
The cost of an organ transplant can range from Rs 7 to Rs 30 lakh, depending on the type of organ and in which hospital the surgery is being performed. ZTCC President SK Mathur told the Times of India, 'This problem is prevalent across the country when patients are not ready to pay the money on that particular day when the organ suddenly becomes available.'

Help from a government scheme
In such situations, when funds are provided through trusts and government schemes, hospitals can be confident that the money will eventually be received. In Maharashtra, under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY), Rs 2.5 lakh is given for kidney transplant, in the new form of this scheme the amount has been increased to Rs 4 lakh.

Help is also available from the Maharashtra CM Relief Fund
SK Mathur said that Jaslok Hospital cooperated in the case of 12-year-old child Aditya Chaudhary and the surgery was possible. The organ recipient has to wait for the organ donor for 8 to 9 months depending on the circumstances and sometimes the organ is available at short notice. In Aditya's case also, a donor was found last week and then the surgery was done on January 30, 2024.
