According to astrology, the Moon is the factor of the mind. On Karva Chauth, the Moon is in its exalted sign Taurus, and with the most beloved wife Rohini. Moon worship done in this position makes married life more happy. Therefore there is a tradition of worshiping the moon on Karva Chauth.
According to mythological belief, there is a story in Ramayana regarding the worship of the Moon. Once Shri Ram saw the moon shining towards the east and asked why there was blackness in the moon. People gave different arguments on this. Then Lord Ram said that the blackness of the moon is due to its poison and due to this, it keeps burning the husband and wife living separately. Therefore, married women worship the Moon and pray that they never have to stay away from their husbands and they can lead a happy married life.
