Back pain is a common problem that can happen to anyone. It can be caused due to many reasons, such as lifting heavy items, walking too much, sprains or even nutritional deficiencies. However, some health experts believe that persistent back pain may not always be a minor problem. In some cases, it may be associated with spine cancer.
What is spine cancer?
Spine cancer involves the formation of tumors on or around the spinal cord. It can be classified into two types: primary and secondary spine cancer. Primary spine cancer originates in the vertebrae or nearby tissues, while secondary spine cancer occurs when cancer spreads to the spinal cord from other parts of the body, such as the lungs or breast. It usually affects the upper back and can be a sign of serious illness.
According to a Times Now report, orthopedic surgeon Dr Arjun Dhavale said that experiencing persistent back pain could be a sign of tumors. He recommends immediate medical attention and diagnostic tests to confirm whether the problem is related to spine cancer. Dr Dhavale explained that one of the main causes of spine cancer is the activation of faulty genes. Most cases of spine cancer are found to spread from internal organs.
