The first woman, who spread yoga to foreign celebrities, was Russian. This Russian woman, named Indra Devi, was born on 12 May 1899 in Riga, the capital of Latvia, whose real name was Uniji Peterson. At the age of 15, Indra, inspired by yoga, came to Indra and here she came to know about the ancient Indian yoga system.

When the situation of the Civil War in Russia was formed, Indra moved to Latvia in 1917 with her mother, from then to Poland, where she became famous as an actress and dancer.
