What is the story behind Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple?
According to Shivpuran, a demon named Tarakasur had pleased Lord Shiva with his penance; in return Shiva had given him the boon of his choice. The boon was that no one other than Shiva's son could kill that demon and the age of the son should also be only 6 days. After getting the boon, Tarakasura started harassing and killing people everywhere and seeing all this the gods and sages prayed to Lord Shiva to kill him. After listening to his prayer, 6-day-old Kartikeya was born in the White Mountain pond. Kartikeya killed the demon, but after getting the information about the devotee of Lord Shiva, he felt very sad.
When Kartikeya realized this, Lord Vishnu gave him a chance to atone and Lord Vishnu suggested him to establish Shivalinga at the place where he had killed the demon. In this way, this temple later came to be known as Stambheshwar Temple.
Why does Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple sink into the lap of the sea?
This temple completely submerges in water and the reason behind it is natural throughout the day the sea level increases so much that the temple submerges completely and then after the water level decreases this temple becomes visible again. Starts giving. This happens twice in the morning and evening and is considered by the people as the consecration of Shiva. Every year lakhs of devotees come to this temple to have darshan of Lord Shiva.
