Instagram has globally launched the feature to blur nude photos with warnings to users around the world. This feature will be active by default globally for teenage users under 18 years of age. At the same time, users above 18 years of age will get a notification to activate this feature. Along with this, there will also be an option to take action against users sending nude images.

Special features of Instagram Nudity Protection Feature
Users sending nude photos on Instagram will receive a warning if they share such sensitive photos. By doing this it is possible that users may change their mind and may even cancel the photo.
This feature will be enabled by default in the accounts of users under 18 years of age. This means that teenage users will see this type of content blurry.
If users are uncomfortable with nude content, they can block the sender. Along with this, they can also report this chat.
How will this feature protect from sextortion?
While rolling out this feature, Instagram also said that they are also working on such technology, through which they can potentially identify accounts associated with sexual extortion scams (crimes related to sexual harassment).

Along with this, it is also working on a feature to prevent such criminals from connecting with teenage users and to prevent potential users involved in sextortion by not showing the 'Message' button on the profiles of teenage users. Instagram is testing features to hide teenagers from such accounts.

Why did Instagram bring this feature?
All other social media companies including Instagram are facing criticism regarding the security of teenage users on their platforms. Earlier this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who appeared in the US Parliament, apologized to the parents of teenage users who were victims of sextortion.

Along with this, in a case filed against the company in a similar case, this platform was described as the biggest market for pedophiles. To get rid of its criticism and legal troubles, Meta has brought such a feature.

Along with Instagram, Meta also owns social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Thread. The nudity protection feature is currently introduced only for Instagram.
