Online Fraud through Social Media: Shopping from well-known e-commerce websites is considered safe and secure. But nowadays people are also shopping through social media apps. There are many groups and pages on Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram etc. where clothes, gadgets and other items are listed and people buy their favourite items from here. Some pages and groups are really good but some are fooling people. If you have these four major social media apps installed on your phone too, then definitely read this article.
The thug stole Rs 29 lakh
Vikar Katiyar, a resident of Delhi, recently got a loss of Rs 29 lakh through Instagram. He had seen a page on Instagram where the iPhone was being sold cheaply. Before buying the phone, he took confirmation about the page from one or two places. When he realized that the page was genuine, he contacted the owner of the page and the owner demanded an advance of Rs 28,000 from Vikar Katiyar. Immediately after making the payment, the fraudster asked Vikar for more money in the name of customs duty and in total, Vikar transferred a total of Rs 28,69,850 to the thug's account in different ways. Suspecting the fraud, Vikar lodged a report with the Cyber Crime Unit of Delhi Police, where the matter is now being investigated.
Don't make this mistake
If you also use these apps, then keep in mind that never shop from any page or group present on such apps. Always order the goods from a trusted place and do the payment for safety only after receiving the order. Do not trust any unknown link or person and do not disclose your personal information to them. This is not the first case where a person has been cheated in this way. Even before this, the Delhi Police had arrested a person from Kolkata who had duped a person of Rs 48,000 through an Instagram page.
