Influenza virus H3N2: Dr. Randeep Guleria, former director of AIIMS Delhi, while talking about the increasing infection of influenza, said that H3N2 is a new strain of influenza and it spreads through droplets and mutates every year. Dr. Guleria is the President and Director of Medical Education at the Institute of Internal Medicine and Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. He told us how people can be careful while celebrating the Holi festival.
Influenza virus H3N2: symptoms
Talking to ANI, Dr. Randeep Guleria told that in cases of influenza, symptoms like sore throat, cough, body ache, and runny nose are seen along with fever. This virus has mutated and immunity towards it has also decreased in people, which is why it is spreading rapidly at this time.
Influenza virus H3N2: how the virus spreads
He said that many years ago the pandemic started due to the H1N1 virus. H3N2 is a new strain of the same virus, so it is a common influenza strain. At this time the cases are increasing because the virus has mutated and people have less immunity to this new strain.
Dr. Guleria also told that this virus changes a little every year. He explained that the H3N2 virus comes from the family of influenza viruses, which mutates according to its many subtypes. The former AIIMS chief cautioned that just because people are not getting hospitalized due to the virus, it does not mean that it is not a matter of concern.
Influenza virus H3N2: How to protect against the virus?
Dr. Randeep Guleria told that the cases are increasing due to two reasons. First, the risk of influenza increases due to weather changes, and second, people have stopped wearing masks after Kovid. Therefore, to avoid this virus, wear a mask, especially in crowded areas and maintain physical distance. He told that old people and people who are already sick can also get the influenza vaccine.
The doctor advised everyone to play Holi but be careful at the same time. Especially those who are older and those who are suffering from chronic respiratory disease, heart or kidney disease.
