Getting a confirmed train ticket on long-distance trains is not an easy task. On the occasion of festivals like Diwali and Chhath, getting tickets is a difficult task. To provide some solution to this problem, Railways has the VIKALP scheme. Indian Railways offers option schemes to the passengers while booking train tickets. This increases the chances of getting a confirmed ticket. Let us know how this scheme of Railways works.
Indian Railways started the Vikalp Scheme in 2015 with the aim of providing confirmed tickets to passengers. Railways has named the Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme (ATAS) VIKALP. Railways tries to give as many confirmed tickets as possible to the passengers through this scheme. Under this, while booking waiting tickets online, passengers can also choose the option of another train to get a confirmed ticket.
HOW TO CHOOSE VIKALP SCHEME
Vikalp scheme increases the chances of passengers getting confirmed tickets. When you book train tickets online, the VIKALP option will be automatically suggested to you. In this option, apart from the train in which you have got the waiting ticket, you are also asked to select other trains on that route. Under the Vikalp Scheme, railway passengers can choose this while booking tickets online. If any seat or berth is available in any alternative train then they will be automatically allotted a seat/berth in any train chosen by them. You can check this option by going to the history of the booked ticket.
7 trains to choose from
You can choose 7 trains under the Vikalp scheme. This train should run from 30 minutes to 72 hours from the boarding stations to the destination. It is worth noting that if you have chosen the Vikalp scheme, it does not mean that you will get a 100% confirmed ticket.
