India's first railway station was Bori Bunder located in Mumbai. India's first passenger train ran from this station to Thane in 1853. It was built by the Great Indian Peninsular Railway. The station was later rebuilt as Victoria Terminus in 1888, named after Queen Victoria.

It was from this station that the first Indian train was formally inaugurated on 16 April 1853. At the same station, 14 coaches carrying around 400 passengers left at around 3.30 pm. At that time a large crowd of people had gathered here. Then a large number of people started the train by clapping loudly. At the same time, the special thing is that the first train was given a salute of 21 guns from this station.

Bori Bunder railway station was later rebuilt as Victoria Terminus in 1888. The station was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) after the famous 17th-century king of Maharashtra, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This station is counted among the most prominent railway stations in Mumbai. Not only this, a large number of trains travel daily from here.
