In a study published in the journal BMJ, researchers reported that consuming eggs can increase the amount of heart-healthy metabolites in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease. The findings suggest that eating one egg per day may help reduce the risk of developing heart disease.
Another 2018 study, published in the journal Heart, included nearly half a million adults in China. The researchers found that people who ate eggs daily (about one egg per day) had a significantly lower risk of heart disease and stroke than those who did not eat eggs.
Cholesterol content in eggs
While studies have suggested that eggs may be beneficial for the heart, some conflicting research also suggests that cholesterol found in egg yolks may increase blood cholesterol levels. In such a situation, the question arises that then how can eggs be beneficial for the heart?
In this regard, the researchers told that there is cholesterol in the egg yolk, but its quantity is not very high. An average egg can contain cholesterol in the amount of 170-180 mg. But at the same time, eggs contain high amounts of nutrients like omega-3 which has been found beneficial for the heart.
Should we eat eggs or not?
Dieticians say, eating one or two eggs does not increase the risk of heart disease in healthy people. Experts of Myoclinic told that if you like eggs but want to consume them while avoiding cholesterol, then only eat the white part of the egg. Egg whites do not contain any cholesterol and are also rich in proteins.
Most research suggests that eating eggs in moderation can help improve heart health.
