After delivery, women are advised to take care of many things related to diet and lifestyle. During pregnancy and postpartum, women's bodies go through many changes. In such a situation, if women do not take proper care of their bodies, then they may face many problems in the coming times. During pregnancy, the uterus, muscles, ligaments and skin around the belly of a woman stretch for the proper development of the baby in the mother's womb. It takes time for any woman to get back in pre-pregnancy shape after delivery. It may take longer for many women to reduce their postpartum belly.
After delivery, we asked Dr Archana Pathak, Director, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, C.K. Spoke to Birla Hospital, Delhi. Let us tell you what is the doctor's opinion about how important it is for women to wear a maternity belt after delivery.
Changes after delivery
There are many changes in the body of women after delivery. During this, many hormonal changes also take place, due to which the uterus returns to its normal size. Swollen cells and tissues return to their original positions, causing more fluid to be released through urine, vaginal discharge, and sweating. However, it takes time for any woman's belly to return to its old size after delivery because it may take time to burn the fat stored around the belly for the growth of the baby.
Why is a maternity belt necessary?
The maternity belt is also called the postpartum belt. It is designed to support the abdomen and lower back of the new mother. The muscles of the abdomen and lower back become weak due to stretching during the 9 months of pregnancy. After delivery, it is very important to give them support and comfort. The maternity belt gives comfort to the area around the abdomen. Thereby helping to reduce stress on the muscles and promote faster recovery. Pain and stretching can also be felt in the pelvic area after delivery. A maternity belt also provides comfort in this. This belt works to settle the internal organs in their original position. Wearing it also gives confidence to women and the assurance that their bodies will soon return to their old condition.
Keep these things in mind before wearing a maternity belt
It is also important to know when and how much to wear the maternity belt. Some women may feel pressure, pain and discomfort wearing it. If the delivery is by C-section, the pressure of the belt can also affect the surgical wounds. Once the wound has healed, wearing the belt can be started but before that take the advice of a medical professional. There are many types of postpartum belts, splints, wraps, and corsets available in the market. You can wear them based on medical advice.
