Consequences of account freezing:

If you fail to update the Aadhaar details in your account, the post office will freeze it. In such a situation, customers may have to face huge losses. Once the account is frozen, you will not be able to deposit money in your SSY or PPF account and the government will also not provide interest benefits. It is important to complete this work before the deadline ends.

Why is Aadhaar necessary?

The Finance Ministry issued a notification on March 31, 2023, stating that both Aadhaar and PAN are now mandatory for investing in small savings schemes like PPF, SSY, and NSC. Starting April 1, 2023, this information is required to be updated in all newly opened accounts. For accounts opened before April 1, if this information has not been updated, the deadline to do so is September 30. After this, such accounts will be frozen from October 1. These accounts will also need to be reactivated after updating Aadhaar and PAN details.
