Pregnancy is the most beautiful journey for every woman in the world. But during this time, would-be-moms also have to face many problems. From the first month of pregnancy till delivery, the mother has to go through many changes. Along with vomiting, fatigue, and physical changes, women experience swollen feet. In medical language, it is called oedema. Although this is a problem of only a few days and is quite common, it can sometimes create great problems for women. There is difficulty in walking due to swelling. However, swelling can be reduced by taking some measures. Dietician RichaDoshi has shared information regarding this on her Instagram account. Let us know about this in detail.

Why do Feet Swell during Pregnancy?

According to experts, this swelling occurs due to hormonal changes. Apart from this, the body starts producing extra fluid to meet the needs of the child. As the pregnancy progresses, the size of the uterus increases and the weight of the child starts putting pressure on the nerves of the legs. Due to this, blood circulation does not take place in the heart, this leads to fluid retention in the veins which can also enter the surrounding tissues. This causes swelling of the feet.

How to reduce swelling of feet

  • Soak your feet in a tub of warm salt water. Soaking feet for 10 to 15 minutes not only reduces swelling but can also reduce muscle pain.
  • Avoid standing for too long, as this can make the swelling worse. In such a situation, when you are lying down, lift your legs and keep them on the wall for 5 minutes. This will help in improving blood circulation and will provide relief from swelling and pain.
  • Give your legs some exercise whenever you sit at the dining table or sofa. Avoid dangling your legs. This can cause more stress in your legs. Whenever you sit, keep your feet on a cushion or stool.
