How does the thyroid affect periods?
- The effect of increasing thyroid hormone TSH (TSH) is on prolactin hormone.
- Prolactin hormone affects the fertility health of women.
- It also affects the estrogen hormone.
- When TSH increases, the prolactin hormone increases and due to this the periods become irregular.
- When there is a change in the level of prolactin hormone due to thyroid hormone, there is a decrease in the release of hormones needed to regulate ovulation and the menstrual cycle.
- Because of this, periods are irregular.
- It can also happen that the blood flow is too fast or too slow.
Other effects of thyroid on women's health
- Infertility problems can also occur due to the thyroid.
- Overactive or underactive thyroid affects the fertility of women.
- Due to thyroid, women may also have the problem of early menopause i.e. stopping periods before time.
- Apart from this, the reason for pimples on the skin can also be the difference in thyroid level.
- Women are also more likely to have hypothyroidism after childbirth or during menopause.
