There are many home remedies for skin problems like acne, tanning, blemishes, dark spots etc. which you must also be aware of. We all try home remedies before consulting a doctor. Gram flour face pack to remove tanning, tomato face mask for skin brightening, coffee scrub to remove dead skin and many more are very popular among women.

But do all the home remedies you try work, and are there alternatives you can try instead? Skincare expert and dermatologist Dr Aanchal Panth is very active on social media. She tells about the safe alternatives of popular remedies through a post.

1. Try Ice globes instead of Ice

You must have seen Bollywood actresses dipping their faces in ice-cold water. It works to reduce facial swelling. This also improves blood circulation and brightens the face. Most of us wrap ice in a cloth and apply it on the face.

Dr Aanchal suggests that one should avoid applying ice directly to the skin as the chances of getting burns from ice are high. An ice globe is a good alternative instead. Ice globes distribute coolness evenly without damaging the skin.

How to apply-

  • Freeze the ice globes overnight. You can also keep it in the freezer for 45 minutes before applying.
  • Cleanse your face with a cleanser and pat dry.
  • After this, massage the face with an ice globe for 10 minutes.

2. Try papaya instead of orange

Orange peels contain citric acid which can help lighten and brighten the skin. It works as an effective exfoliating agent who helps in removing blackheads and cleansing the pores. Have you also been told by your friend to use orange for brightening?

Avoid applying orange peels directly on the face. This is because it can also cause skin irritation. Use papaya instead. Mashed papaya with curd provides a cooling effect on the skin. Papaya improves the texture of your skin and also provides a glow.

How to apply-

  • Mash 1/2 cup papaya and mix 1 tsp honey and milk in it and apply on the face for 20 minutes.
  • After this wash your face with lukewarm water and apply moisturizer.

3. Plant tomato instead of lemon

Lemon juice acts as a natural bleaching agent and helps in reducing stubborn tanning. However, it should not be applied directly on the skin. For sensitive skin people, it is advised to use tomatoes instead. Tomato is rich in antioxidant lycopene and soothes the skin. It acts as a good skin-brightening agent.

How to apply-

  • Take out tomato juice in a bowl.
  • Clean your face with a cleanser, dry it and then apply tomato juice all over the face and neck and leave it for 20-25 minutes.
  • Don't forget to apply moisturizer after washing your face with cold water.

Along with this, Dr Aanchal also says that if there is an underlying disorder, then the help of these home remedies cannot be taken for it. These tips can only moisturize and exfoliate your skin.

Also, keep in mind that your natural colour does not change either. You can try these to even out tanning, dark spots and skin tone.

For any skin-related problem, do not try home remedies without first consulting your doctor.
