There are two types of cholesterol in our body. One is good cholesterol and the other is bad cholesterol. When people consume too much fat, the level of LDL i.e. bad cholesterol increases in the blood. Due to this, plaque starts accumulating in the veins and creates difficulties in blood flow. Due to this, serious problems like heart attack and stroke can occur.
High cholesterol builds up in your body silently, without showing any symptoms. However, sometimes you may see some symptoms of high cholesterol in your eyes. This is like a warning sign for you. These changes are visible in the eyes when cholesterol increases
When there is high cholesterol, yellow and white lumps start forming around or in the corners of the eyes. These are soft to the touch. This is known as Xanthelasma. According to experts, such changes occur in people who have high cholesterol levels due to the accumulation of cholesterol under the skin.
When there is high cholesterol, white or light brown deposits form around the cornea. This happens due to the accumulation of fats in the depth of the edge of the cornea. It is known as Arcus senilis. This is usually caused by cholesterol accumulation.
Change in colour of eyes or blurred vision is also a sign of high cholesterol. This is a condition called retinal vein occlusion. In this condition, one or more veins carrying blood from the retina get obstructed.
