Ventricular arrhythmia can cause problems like rapid heartbeat and rapid fluctuations in blood pressure, which, if not treated immediately, can lead to loss of consciousness and even sudden death in many people.

To prevent this and diagnose and treat the problem in time, scientists have developed an AI tool called VA-ResNet-50. With its help, it can help in the timely diagnosis of heart rhythm problems and if there is any problem, it can be treated. Ventricular arrhythmia can also cause problems like heart failure.

What did the study find?
According to its published research paper in the European Heart Journal, scientists tried to find out about heart conditions in 270 adults by examining their ECGs. About 159 people experienced fatal ventricular arrhythmias. AI tools were used to check the heart rhythm of the participants to determine whether it posed a risk of serious problems in the future.

Scientists said that this tool can help diagnose the problem accurately. In four out of every five cases, the AI tool made the correct prediction, which could also make it easier to identify which patients may be at risk for ventricular arrhythmias and the serious risks they lead to.

What do health experts say?
Andre Ng, professor of electrophysiology at the university, says, the important thing is that with this device we can know which person is at higher risk. Not only can we detect problems with the heart rhythm, but it also helps us identify who may need life-saving treatment with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. Timely diagnosis and treatment of these problems can also help in reducing the risk of death from heart disease.

Researchers say, that by using AI to examine patients' electrocardiograms, we can determine their risk of serious heart disease problems.
