What is dark tea?
If you drink tea and have diabetes, then there is good news for you. Scientists believe that drinking dark tea can maintain blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of diabetes. This claim has been made in new research by Adelaide University in Australia and Southeast University in China. This study was shared at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Hamburg this year. The research involved 1,923 adult participants – 436 of them had diabetes, 352 had prediabetes, and 1,135 had normal blood sugar levels. Researchers examined the habit and type of tea drinking, glucose in the urine, insulin resistance glycemic, etc.

Dark tea is a type of fully oxidized tea that undergoes microbial fermentation. It is called 'dark' tea because the leaves are oxidized and change color. A great example of a dark tea is Pu-erh from China. Dark tea is different from black tea. Black tea is more like black tea is oxidized, green tea is unoxidized, yellow tea is slightly fermented and dark tea is after fermentation.
