In this rainy season, dengue cases are increasing rapidly in many cities of the country including Delhi-NCR. In Delhi, dengue cases have reached the highest level in five years, after which the government and health agencies have started preparing to deal with the viral infection. Meanwhile, the latest study has found that viral dengue becomes even more deadly in hot temperatures.

The study, conducted by researchers at the Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology, revealed that dengue becomes more severe when its virus (DENV) is exposed to high temperatures. This study has been published in The Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology.

Research in mice has shown that

Warmer temperatures cause the virus to multiply faster inside mosquitoes, so they can spread it more quickly to humans. The reason for this is the short incubation period of the virus. It has been researched in rats. Due to the high temperature, the stronger version of the virus greatly increased the viral load in the blood of the mice, which could cause severe damage to vital organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys. Not only this but sometimes the death of the victim can also happen.

What if I get dengue again?

Many people get dengue for the second time as well. Dengue virus is divided into four categories - Den - 1, Den 2, Den 3 and Den 4. So whenever a person is infected, usually only one type of virus is involved. If someone gets dengue for the second time, it can be more dangerous. This is a result of dengue virus serotype cross-reactivity. A person is more likely to develop severe dengue if they already have one serotype of the dengue virus and then get a different serotype. This is because of how the immune system reacts.
