This is due to the inflammatory properties present in them which reduce the body's natural ability to regulate fluid levels.

According to the NCBI report, eating processed foods that contain excess sodium or added sugar causes water to accumulate in the body. This includes foods like chips, hot dogs, cookies, cakes, ice cream, frozen meals.

Alcohol

Alcohol increases the production of urine. In such a situation, its excessive consumption leads to water retention in the body due to which there is a risk of liver damage. If you do not drink water while drinking alcohol, your body starts getting dehydrated and your body gets filled with water.

Salty foods

According to the report published in NIH, eating foods high in salt causes water to accumulate in the body. This happens because excess salt disturbs the water-sodium balance in the body. This includes packaged foods, pickles, etc.

Foods high in sugar

Like salt, consuming too much sugar also causes water retention. In such a situation, if you are consuming things like fruit juice, sports drinks, sugar added coffee-tea, then water accumulation in your body may also occur.

Refined carbohydrates

Consumption of foods containing refined carbohydrates like pasta, white rice, bread, cereals increases the risk of water retention problem in the body.
