Given the increasing pollution in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena chaired a meeting on Friday evening to review the situation arising out of air pollution. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal could not attend this meeting as he was out of Delhi. Among those present in the meeting, Environment Minister Gopal Rai, the Chief Secretary (on video conference), and officials of various departments participated.

The Lieutenant Governor reiterated that the pollution situation in Delhi is very worrying and also expressed serious concern over the continuously increasing AQI levels. Situation like health emergency in Delhi- AIIMS professor

Meanwhile, Dr. Sanjay Rai, Professor of Community Medicine at AIIMS, said that at present the situation of air pollution in Delhi is very dangerous and a situation like a health emergency has been created. He said that Delhi has been wrapped in smoke and dust for two consecutive days, the more days this situation continues, the greater will be the damage to health.

Therefore, there is a need to declare a health emergency and take immediate and strict steps to reduce air pollution. Pollution is affecting people of all ages. Its effect is more on the elderly, children, and pregnant women. Due to its side effects, the physical development of the lungs of children stops. There is nothing bigger than life.

Advice to stop all vehicle operations

To save the lives of children and people, the operation of all vehicles except those related to basic needs and emergency services should be banned. This step will affect economic activities for a few days, but people's lives come first.

Therefore, work from home should also be declared in government and private offices for a few days. This will reduce the pressure of vehicles on the roads. During Corona, it was observed that pollution had reduced due to the lockdown. The number of buses should be increased for the transportation of needy people. So that people do not have to wait long for buses.
