At the global level, the spread of Corona seems to be quite controlled at the moment, even the World Health Organization has now removed it from the list of 'Global Health Emergency'. However, in the past, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has alerted people, expressing concern about another serious health problem globally. According to CDC experts, some countries have recently reported increased cases of monkeypox infection, which calls for prevention efforts. It may be noted that during the Covid wave, cases of monkeypox were reported to increase suddenly.
The CDC said that we are investigating several new cases of monkeypox. Officials said a month ago that the weekly pace of new infections had dropped to zero. However, many countries have reported new cases. We are tracking new infections, most of the infected people were previously vaccinated. The increase in cases of infection even after vaccination is worrying.
Many new cases confirmed
Given the risks of monkeypox, the Europe branch of the World Health Organization (WHO) has run a campaign called Eliminate Monkeypox. In which emphasis is laid on alerting people regarding vaccination and prevention.
At the same time, according to the CDC, 13 new cases of infection have been reported in Chicago. Nine had been vaccinated. Although the good thing is that none of these 13 people is hospitalized.
Since April 26, 60 cases have been reported in eight states. According to officials, infection is possible after vaccination, but people who have received the two-dose vaccine reduce the risk of infection and the severity of the disease. Currently, doctors must test people with symptoms who are diagnosed with the infection, whether or not they have been vaccinated.
CDC is working with local and state health departments to investigate newMpox cases, some of which occurred in people who were vaccinated. Infection after vaccination is possible, but getting the two-dose vaccine makes getting it less likely.
CDC stresses vaccination
Globally, the risk of serious disease and death due to monkeypox infection was seen only last year, after which the rate of vaccination increased in the affected countries. Officials say, getting vaccinated is very important. No vaccine is 100% effective and infection is still possible after vaccination, but the advantage is that infection does not lead to severe disease and hospitalization may be less likely.
Tedros Adhanom-Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, said that except for a few cases, monkeypox infection is decreasing globally. We know that the virus continues to spread in certain communities and countries, such as the western Pacific region that has had more outbreaks. Monitoring and timely investigation of travel-related cases in such countries is essential.
Monkeypox is a deadly infection
Mpox or monkeypox disease is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. In this, along with large blisters on the skin, there may be a problem of swelling and fever in the lymph nodes. Earlier this virus was seen more in African countries but for the last few years, its cases have increased worldwide. In India too, its cases were reported for the first time during the corona infection, although now there is not a single patient in the country.
