It is easy to get beautiful hair when we lead a healthy lifestyle that consists of consuming a balanced diet including fruits and vegetables daily, exercising regularly and staying hydrated.

A healthy scalp promotes hair growth and requires proper nutrition, sleep, vitamins, minerals etc. Improper eating habits, insufficient sleep, eating too much-processed food and not eating enough leafy vegetables can lead to many problems related to skin and hair. ,

The following can be practised to prevent hair thinning, grey hair and hair fall. When done regularly, these asanas and postures help restore and retain hair colour naturally. Yoga Master, Spiritual Guru and Lifestyle Coach, Grand Master Akshar Ji is telling us about these Yogasanas.

Yoga pose

Practice the following postures in the given exact order for best results. Do each pose for 10-15 minutes and be consistent in your practice for 4-5 weeks to see the benefits of the pose.

Balayam Mudra

The ancient Indian practice of nail-rubbing is known as 'Balayam' in the context of Yoga. The compound word Balayam is made up of two words- 'Bala' meaning child and 'Vyayama' meaning exercise. So basically balayam, or nail rubbing, is an exercise for the hair.

Method to prepare and apply

  • Make half a fist by rotating the fingers inward.
  • Take out the thumb.
  • Keeping the palms facing each other let the fingernails touch each other.
  • Now rub the nails of one hand together while moving up and down in a fast motion.
  • Remember, only the fingernails have to be rubbed, not the thumb.

Yoga asanas

The following asanas in yoga help in nourishing the scalp by promoting blood circulation in the body. By practicing these techniques regularly we can improve the quality of hair as well as enjoy better overall health.

Halasan

  • To do this, lie down on your back.
  • To raise the legs, press the palms on the floor and drop them behind the head.
  • You can support your back with your palms as per your comfort level.
  • Stay in the posture for some time.

Headstand

  • To do this, first of all, come to Vajrasana.
  • Keep the elbows on the ground and interlock the palms.
  • The palms and elbows should form a triangle on the floor.
  • Place the head on the floor in front of the palms.
  • Support the back of the head with the palms.
  • Walk the toes towards the head until the back is straight.
  • Raise one leg first and slowly raise your other leg.
  • Join the feet and lower the toes.
  • Remain in this position for as long as you are comfortable.

Caution

Women suffering from neck pain, spondylitis and high blood pressure should not practice this asana.
