According to the Hindu religion, there is a tradition to celebrate Govardhan Puja every year on the next day of Diwali. This year Govardhan Puja falls on Tuesday, 14th November. Govardhan Puja is also known as Annakoot. On this day, there is a tradition of offering 56 bhog to Lord Govardhan.

It is believed that whoever performs Govardhan Puja with full dedication receives the unwavering blessings of Lord Govardhan as well as Shri Krishna. The complete method of Govardhan Puja

  • First of all, on the day of Govardhan Puja, wake up early in the morning and take a bath etc.
  • After this, worship whatever god or goddess you believe in.
  • After this, bring cow dung into the house. Keep in mind that the cow dung should be completely pure.
  • That is, there should not be any pebbles or stones in the dung nor should there be any dirty soil mixed in it.
  • Make the shape of Lord Govardhan from cow dung.
  • Keep in mind that the figure of Lord Govardhan should be in a sleeping posture.
  • Keep an earthen lamp in place of the navel of Lord Govardhan.
  • Fill the navel lamp with milk, curd, honey, Natasha and Ganga water.
  • Decorate the figure of the Lord with flowers and constantly remember Lord Govardhan.
  • After this, while starting the puja, offer naivedya and fruits to Lord Govardhan.
  • Light a lamp in front of Lord Govardhan.
  • After this, circumambulate Lord Govardhan 7 times.

  • During parikrama, keep pouring Ganga water from the pot around the figure.
  • Along with spilling water, we should also sow barley seeds.
  • After the process, finally, perform the Aarti of Lord Govardhan.
  • Distribute the Prasad present in the navel lamp and seek the blessings of Lord Govardhan.
