Google has announced new Workspace updates for its messaging platform Google Chat, which is primarily available to all users through Gmail. These features are aimed at improving chat between users, saving time, and making it more effective. The company has further improved the voice messaging feature introduced earlier this year and now new features have been added to it.
Video messaging
Google explained the video messaging feature in the Workspace blog and gave some examples of its real use. It can be used by members of customer care service and sales teams to share video updates about new features or account changes.
This feature can be used in direct messages (DMs), group DMs, and spaces. Along with this, interactions like reacting, replying, or quoting can also be done. Messages sent or received will be saved in the Media section of the Share tab.
This feature is not available on ChromeOS, Linux, and Firefox. Users can receive video messages on all platforms, but can only send them on the web. The feature is currently not available on mobile.
Voice message transcriptions
Google then announced transcription for voice messages. Through this feature, users will now be able to see automatic transcription of voice messages in chats on the web and mobile. It can be viewed by tapping on the "View transcript" option appearing below the voice message and there will also be an option to hide it. Voice message transcription is treated as text for screen readers and will work according to the language settings of the device.
