How to plant Giloy plant at home?

The method of planting Giloy plants at home is very easy. You can also grow it in a pot and it can be grown from seed. You can also buy the plant directly from the nursery.

Step 1 - Planting the Seeds

  • Wash at least four to five Giloy seeds thoroughly and keep them in cold water for a day.
  • Now plant the seeds in a pot and make a soil mix such that 60 percent garden soil, 20 percent cow dung manure, 10 percent fertilizer and a little sand must be mixed.
  • Now plant the seeds in this mix and add water gradually so that the soil becomes moist.
  • Be careful not to water the soil so hard that it dislodges the seeds.
  • After this keep it in indirect sunlight for two weeks. During this time it will be germinated.

Step 2 – What to do after germination

Giloy grows like a vine and hence does not require much water. Even if it is given water once a week, it will work, but you have to keep in mind that the soil remains moist.

Giloy does not need very strong sunlight, so keep this in mind. It can be grown in all climates and does not require any special soil preparation.

Step 3 – What to do after the growth of the plant

When the vine of Giloy starts flourishing well, then heart-shaped leaves come into it and red-coloured fruits start appearing.

Juice of Giloy leaves, a decoction of its stem and powder can be made by drying its stem. Although nowadays it is available in the form of capsules and readymade powder, still if you are growing Giloy as a plant, then its fresh leaves can also be chewed.

Giloy juice is considered very beneficial and hence you can take it in any form.
