Ganesh Visarjan 2023: On the Chaturthi day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, people bring the idol of Lord Ganesha to their homes with great enthusiasm and install it and worship him with full devotion and devotion. This festival of Ganeshotsav continues for about ten days, after which on the day of Anant Chaturdashi, the idol of Ganesha is immersed with the feeling of 'Ganpati Vappa Moriya next year, you come quickly'. But do you know why the idol of Bappa is immersed every year on the day of Anant Chaturdashi or ten days after the installation of the idol? So let us know the mythological reason for this...
Mahabharata and Vedavyas
The main reason behind immersing the idol of Ganpati Bappa in water after ten days is related to Mahabharata and Maharishi Vedvyas. Actually, Maharishi Vedvyas, the author of Mahabharata, had prayed to Lord Ganesha to transcribe it. Lord Ganesha accepted his prayer and the work of writing Mahabharata was started from the day of Ganesh Chaturthi itself.
Lord Ganesha's condition
Although Lord Ganesha had accepted the prayer of Maharishi Vedvyas, he had put a condition for transcribing the Mahabharata, 'When I start writing, I will not stop the pen, if the pen stops, I will stop writing.'. Then Vedvyasji said Lord, you are the foremost among the gods, the giver of knowledge and wisdom and I am an ordinary sage. If I make a mistake in any verse, then please correct that verse and transcribe it. Ganpati ji agreed and then the writing work started day and night due to this, Ganesh ji was bound to feel tired, but he also had to drink water. Was forbidden. Therefore, to prevent the temperature of Ganpati ji's body from increasing, Ved Vyas applied mud on his body and worshiped Ganesh ji on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi. After which the work of writing Mahabharata started. It took about 10 days to complete.
Lord Ganesha became stiff
The day Ganesh ji completed the work of writing Mahabharata, that day was Anant Chaturdashi. However, due to non-stop writing for ten days, Lord Ganesha's body had become immobile. When the clay paste dried, Lord Ganesha's body became stiff, due to which Lord Ganesha was also named Parthiv Ganesha. Vedvyas saw that Ganapati's body temperature was still very high and the mud applied on his body was drying up and falling off, so Vedvyas put him in water. During these ten days, Ved Vyas gave various things to Lord Ganesha to eat. This is the reason why Ganpati Sthapana is done for 10 days and then after 10 days the idol of Lord Ganesha is immersed in Anant Chaturdashi.
