7 September i.e. Ganesh Chaturthi will mark the beginning of the ten-day Ganesh festival. These ten days are very special for the devotees of Lord Ganesha. In these ten days, people install Bappa in their homes and welcome him with great pomp. During Ganesh Utsav, many dishes are offered to Lord Ganesha, but his favorite is modak.

In the market, you can find modaks of many other flavors along with ordinary ones, but his favorite is the traditional modak. Ingredients to make Modak

1 cup rice flour

1 cup water

1 tsp ghee

A pinch of salt

For stuffing

1 cup fresh grated coconut

¾ cup grated jaggery

1 tsp cardamom powder

1 tsp poppy seeds (optional)

1 tsp ghee

1 tsp dry fruits (chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios - optional)

Method

To prepare Modak, first of all, you have to prepare the stuffing. For this, put 1 tsp ghee in a pan add grated coconut to it, and fry it on low flame for 2-3 minutes. When it is fried properly, add grated jaggery to it and cook it till the jaggery melts completely and mixes with coconut.

After the jaggery is mixed, add cardamom powder, poppy seeds, and chopped nuts it and mix well. After the mixture thickens, take it off the gas and keep it aside to cool. The stuffing of Modak is ready.

Now you have to prepare its outer layer. For this, boil 1 cup of water and a pinch of salt in a vessel. When the water starts boiling, add 1 teaspoon of ghee to it add rice flour slowly and mix it, so that no lumps are formed. After the dough is prepared properly, now take out the dough on a plate and knead it well when it cools down a bit. Keep in mind that the dough should be soft and smooth.

Now it is the turn to make modaks, for this first make small balls from the dough. Now spread it with one hand. After spreading a little dough, keep the stuffing in the middle and close the dough from all sides. Now put it in the modak mold and pack it properly. After all the modaks are ready, cook them in a steamer for 10-12 minutes. After 10 minutes take it out of the steamer. Your modaks are ready for Bhog.
